Parish Council stops weed spraying in Village

MAPC Notice
Weed killer spraying in the parish

You may or may not be aware that the contractor responsible for mowing and looking after certain areas in the village is also contracted to spray weed killer in various specific areas twice a year e.g. kerbs and paths. In doing so, and within statutory safety guidelines, the contractor uses glycol-phosphate as the active agent.

It has now been shown that glycol-phosphates, whilst fully approved for such use, are not conducive to biodiversity and can have a detrimental effect on wildlife. This being the case the Parish Council, after much careful consideration, has decided to request that these chemicals are no longer to be used in the village. North Northants Council have also been similarly requested to follow suit.

In the absence of spraying the Parish Council ask that residents help in the control of weeds by undertaking to clear such weeds as they may find in the immediate area of their property.

If anybody finds that such a task too difficult than please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Clerk.
